A company uses a variety of resources
from nature to run its business and at the same time, knowingly or unknowingly,
harms the environment as well. Various business activities carried out by
business groups results in pollution and hampers sustainable development.
In order to keep the environment safe and clean, many companies in current
times take initiatives towards going green. It’s a fact that businesses that
serve nature today will thrive in the future. It is beneficial from the point
of view of the environment and all the stakeholders. A proper balance between
business and nature is necessary for the smooth running of business activities.
In recent years, many companies have
taken various environmental initiatives to ‘Go Green’.
Here are a few great environmental
initiatives are taken by some of the companies:
Unilever
Unilever launched its sustainable living
plans in 2010 to support a green environment. They always believe in producing
innovative products by keeping in mind customers' needs, tastes, and
preferences. An example of this includes dry shampoos that reduce GHG
emissions and water use. They have also run hand washing campaigns to aware
people of its importance.
Zomato
Zomato recycles oil-filled containers of
restaurants to biodiesel. Zomato collects oil-filled containers from
restaurants, processes the quality oil and delivers it to biodiesel
manufacturing units. All these initiatives are taken as per the RUCO initiative of
FSSAI. Zomato also fights against food wastage and hunger by providing excess
food to the less fortunate.
Coca-cola
Coca-cola has taken eco-friendly green
initiatives by way of water-preservation, energy and weather protection, and
sustainable packaging. It also engages in community recycling programs, focuses
on green packaging and ensures effective use of energies in production and
supplies.
Star-bucks
Starbucks, the Indian joint venture of
coffee brands with Tata have decided to go green in 2019 with compostable
wooden cutlery & stirrers, paper cups & straws, glassware instead of
plastic for all food and beverages. The company plans to use 100%
environmentally friendly packaging in its operations.
Nestle
Maggi
Nestle has announced to make its brands
‘Maggi’ and ‘KitKat’ plastic neutral as a part of their green initiatives.
Nestle also offered return policies to support its plastic management
initiatives. Consumers can exchange 10 empty packets of Maggi noodles for one
fresh packet. This program is started in two places at Uttarakhand as its been
observed that consumers do not dispose of empty packets in a proper way. This resulted in plastic pollution at most
visited hill stations in Uttarakhand.
Every big and small company should focus
on running eco-friendly activities. Every small business, restaurants, motels,
manufacturing industries can try to go green as much as they can. Every day,
many of the industries generate various organic scrap materials at their
manufacturing units or canteens. One can think of disposing of this scrap in an
eco-friendly manner to save the environment.
Such small business sectors can install waste composting machine-like Goldust on their premises. Goldust automatically
decomposes scrap within a few hours and generates organic manure. It’s an
odorless, noiseless and maintenance-free process. Industries can decompose
biodegradable scrap materials, canteen waste, etc with the help of Goldust and
imitate ‘Go Green’ initiatives in its operations. Proper disposal of such wet
materials creates larger and long term impacts on the environment. Contact LAHS
