What Are The Challenges Of Waste Management In Cities?

Increasing population means more trash generations that ultimately creates a waste management crisis in big cities. The waste management company in Mumbai will solve waste management problems. The reason being larger scale waste generations also increases the costs for municipal authorities for handling trash. Especially in a country like India where the landfills are overflowing with scraps, the garbage management is obviously a serious issue.

So, what challenges are being faced by urban cities regarding garbage handling?

Let’s understand these concerns below:

Excess expenditures on collection & transportation

As we all know, government authorities collect & transport scrap volumes every day from our homes to dump yards. It ultimately results in huge spendings on collection & transport facilities. As a result of which, you are then left with very little money that is then spent on recycling activities. Nonetheless, it also increases overall funding requirements for waste removal activities as well.

Lack of proper infrastructure

One more challenge is there is no robust infrastructure to effectively manage & dispose waste items. In India, we handover wet & dry garbage aggregately to the garbageman. Which then creates difficulties in ensuring right scrap removal. The reason such a problem exists is because we haven’t established a proper system for scrap removal activities. Which in turn creates many problems for us.

Lack of proper waste bins

There are not enough road-side garbage bins. And as a consequence of which, the law-abiding citizens also throw their garbage on the roads. Such rubbish later on starts to rot and then causes pollution. This is also one of the biggest challenges faced in almost all urban cities. And it ultimately increases the garbage removal costs for the government.

Lack of education among consumers

There are majorly three kinds of scraps i.e. wet, dry, and biomedical garbage. However, unfortunately, very few people know the right way to dispose of every type of scrap. Which again creates a challenge in front of waste management authorities. That is why it is necessary to educate every consumer on handling the scrap volumes efficiently.

Lack of effective rules & regulations

Consumers are not aware of the horrible consequences of wrong garbage disposal practices. Or even if they are aware, they continue throwing up scraps on open roads. Also, as there is no legal punishment for such behaviours, therefore the waste handling problems continue to become bigger day by day. So, the only option is to educate consumers in the right way and make strict rules for punishing those who do not obey the rules.

Conclusion:

An urban city faces a number of challenges in garbage management. So, it is our duty as a responsible citizen to lower the burdens of scraps on authorities. Initially, one can start with composting the wet scraps using Goldust.

Goldust is a product of LAHS Eco Engineering - a waste management company in Mumbai. This composter machine converts wet scraps into effective manure within 24 hours. It is also easy to operate and one person can easily handle the equipment on a part-time basis. You can visit the website of LAHS Eco Engineering for more detailed information.
